Friday 30th July was a fun filled afternoon for the community of Cranmore when a community day was held in the Abbeyquarter Community Centre.
Presentations of the prizes for the ‘Best of Cranmore’ competitions took place. There were several different categories which included Best Kept Garden, Best Cake, Best Photograph, and Best Plant. Entries for the Best Kept Garden competition were high with 84 entries, prizes were awarded to the best garden in each of the different drives and a number of consolation prizes were drawn for all the participants who were entered into the competition. Brian Curtain won 1st prize for the overall best garden in Cranmore and retained the perpetual cup sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy Cranmore for the second year running. Cranmore Place won the overall prize for Best Kept Street in Cranmore. Best plant was won by Vera Mulligan. The competition was judged by Horticulturist Edel Noone. North Connaught Gold.
The prize for best photograph was judged by Carl Brennan Sligo Champion and won by Valarie Somers for her snapshot of a rainbow over Cranmore 2nd prize went to an entry by the youth in Abbeyquarter Centre.
The prize for best cake was judged by two members of the ICA Rosleen Holland and Rose Leyden. The Davey & Scott Cheesecake made by Louis and Hannah Scott and Nicole and Guissippi Davey won first prize with 2nd Prize going to Marian Byrne for her delicious appletart, 3rd prize went to Norah Haugh for her entry on behalf of the Resource House in Cranmore. Shirley and Savannah Gorman were also awarded a prize.
Sports activities for the youth were supervised by Diane Middleton Sligo Sports Partnership and her team of coaches.
Pat Forde North Connaught Youth manned the BBQ on the day, with the added support of Anne Marie Snee Springboard Resource House. Tina Cawley Supervisor Abbeyquarter Centre was kept busy on the day with the large community attendance.
Members of Cranmore Regeneration Team socialised with the community with Bartley Gavin Director of Services presenting the prizes. Cranmore Co-operative wishes to acknowledge with thanks the support the Regeneration Team provided in the organisation of the ‘Best of Cranmore’ competitions. It is hoped to build further on these competitions in the coming year.
