As part of it’s ongoing programmes to involve the local community, youth and adult the Cranmore Community Co-operative and
local Sligo Gardai hosted a fun soccer blitz in Sean Fallon Park Abbeyquarter on Saturday 12th July and concluded with presentation
of trophies.
The various matches involved three age groups: group one 6-10 years, group two 10 to 14 years and group three 15 to 18 years.
A similar event was held last year as part of the Family Fun Day and turned out to be the highlight of the day with the Gardai and
local youth meeting in a friendly atmosphere and enjoying the after games social in the Abbeyquarter Centre. While this was a fun
event it also promoted better understanding between the Gardai who work on the ground in Sligo and the local youth. The trophies were jointly sponsored by Cranmore Co-operative and the Garda Social Club while John Kent sponsored a perpetual trophy in the 15 to 18 year age group. Sponsorship was also provided by Michael Scanlon, Harry’s Bar and Kevin Quinn, Embassy Rooms. Pictured are the winners of the perpetual trophy with . Absent from photograph Bean Garda Susan Gilmore.
