Girls Outside

Is funded, by the Mountaineering Council of Ireland and supported by ‘Sligo Sports & Recreation Partnership’. The Project Coordinator is Deirdre Cunningham. One of the aims is to introduce Teenage Girls to Outdoor Adventures i.e Hill walking, Climbing and Abseiling, Orienteering, National parks and Wildlife Services. The ultimate aim of the project is to leave a lasting impression on the Girls of how to enjoy Outdoor Activities safely in the future while also improving their health and well being. The group attended an introductory slide show on the1st November in the Abbeyquarter Community Centre to explain the many activities that were planned to take place over the next few months. The group’s first outing was held on the 2nd of November in Hazelwood and was a Nature /Forest Walk including field study and ecological games. The girls joined in with great enthusiasm and the general consensus was that it was a great day out. The next outing is eary January, and is a hill walk exploring 4000 years old caves and a visit to a donkey sanctuary. Further outings will include Rock Climbing which could possibly be a mobile climbing wall. The last outing will be to an adventure centre the girls are strongly in favour of Petersburg Outdoor Education Centre in Clonbur Co Galway as the choice of venue for this activity.Come on all the rest of the Girls of Cranmore you can have great fun outside too.Anyone interested in joining the group can contact Helen O’Hara on 0879728717
