Great Community turn out at the 2012 Family Funday!

Family Fun Day September 2012

The annual Cranmore Community Co-operative Family Fun Day held Saturday September 1st 2012 was a great success with over two hundred and fifty residents enjoying the range of activities on offer, an increase on last year’s numbers. The event was organised by Cranmore Co-op volunteers and staff in conjunction with Cranmore Regeneration Office.

There was great participation from the community and something for all age groups. Youth soccer group Cranmore Rovers A and B teams took part in a tournament that was closely fought right to the final whistle. The Mayor David Cawley presented the youth with medals sponsored by the Garda Siochana. Well done to coach Samantha’s Watters team who were the jubilant winners with a final score of 7-4 over Coach Gerard Melly’s team. Thanks to the Mayor who was a huge success with youth and older persons alike posing for photographs and engaging in banter with all.

Prizes were also presented by the Mayor to youth that participated in the Co-op summer camp competitions. In addition the Best of Cranmore Competition prizes were also presented categories included Garden, Photograph and Cake competitions. Thanks to Teresa and Eileen the ladies from the ICA who faced the difficult task of judging the cake competition. Liz Gilligan won 1st prize for her Swiss Roll with Rachel Tiernan winning 2nd place with her Carrot Cake, Hannah Scott won 3rd with her Chocolate  Rice Cake. 1st prize in the tart section was Shirley Gorman with her piping hot Bakewell Tart. Alva Lee won a first place as well in the home made bread section. Thanks to all those that entered the competition the entries make a great impression on the judges, and were snapped up by residents at the cake sale afterwards.

Winners in the Best Photograph Competition were Evelyn Tiernan , Hilda Finnegan, Margaret Mc Loughlin, and Mary Gorman.

Sligo Sports & Recreation Partnership coaches featured a packed day of sports that kept the youth entertained for the afternoon, and helped them work up an appetite for the BBQ manned by Co-op volunteers.

Well done to all the Co-op members and volunteers on the hard work they undertook to make the day the huge success it was. Last but not least a big thank you to local resident and amateur photographer Warren Forde for his snapshots that captured the fun moments of the day.
